Which one goes in your range bag
If you shoot in a group, at a club or with a range officer, pick electronic: you hear the commands and keep the muffs on between strings. If you shoot alone and hate charging and spare batteries, the passive 016 does the same job on the shot itself.
Indoors, NIOSH recommends plugs under muffs. A slim cup makes that easier, because it leaves room for the plug and for a rifle stock.
Glasses and gel pads
Shooting glasses lift the cushion where the temple arm crosses it. Gel pads close that gap better than foam. Several lines here come with a gel option, and the GEP02 pads fit our 030, 066 and 016 muffs.
PROHEAR shooting ear protection: questions
Which PROHEAR earmuffs should you take to an indoor range?
Any of the electronic models, worn over foam earplugs: NIOSH recommends plugs and muffs together at firing ranges. The electronics let you hear the range officer without lifting a cup.
Do PROHEAR electronic earmuffs need batteries?
The 066, the 031, the 5x digital muffs, the 056 and the 022 run on two AAA cells. The 030 adds Bluetooth: the original runs on AAA cells, the 030 2.0 on a built-in rechargeable battery.
Will PROHEAR muffs work with your shooting glasses?
Yes, with the temple arms tucked under the cushion edge. Gel pads seal better around the arms than foam; NIOSH notes that eyewear can break a muff’s seal.
Are PROHEAR passive 016 earmuffs enough for a rifle?
The 016 is rated NRR 26. For a single outdoor session many shooters use it alone; under a roof or with a muzzle brake next to you, add earplugs.
